Trust is one of those words that Christians throw around a lot. It’s one of those words (like hope and faith) that we’re told not to use in business presentations because they convey a lack of confidence, an unsure feeling, a weakness. Growing up I heard “just trust God” more times than I could count. I always thought, well, give me something that I can see, something I can know. I believe in God, but how can you trust in a plan that is unknown? How can you know anything about purpose or anything at all? I wanted something visible, something tangible that I could center my hopes and expectations on. I wanted something strong, something powerful, something so reliable that I could bet my life on it.
